Palmitos Park, founded in 1978 is located in the surroundings of Barranco de Palmitos on the island of Gran Canaria. The park which now spans an area of 48 acres, has an aquarium and botanical garden complete with an orchid house - an oasis for 1500 species of birds, fish and butterflies. The Eagle House offers a flying demonstration each day alongside the old favourite, the Parrot Show, demonstrating the antics and tricks of one of the most friendly and intelligent birds in the world. The aquarium has an immense collection of tropical fish and the Orchid House an impressive selection of island flora.
The dolphinarium comprises 3 swimming pools containing more than 4 million litres of water. The amphitheatre-style grandstand seats 1500 people who enjoy a privileged view of the completely natural surroundings. Currently, the dolphinarium is home to 6 bottlenosed dolphins (Tursiops truncatus) although it is capable of housing up to 9 dolphins.
